Deborah Kobylt LIVE: Carolyn Johnson

I love Harlem, have lived there, and have always had a passion for the people, culture, and history there. So naturally, I jumped at the chance to interview Carolyn Johnson, creator of Harlem-Opoly, an exciting board game based on the Harlem Renaissance, which includes some of the famous personalities and landmarks Harlem, from Josephine Baker to the Apollo Theater.

Carolyn is also President and Founder of Welcome to Harlem, focusing on the rich history and cultural diversity of Harlem, and also Harlem Roots, which teaches kids about Harlem’s history. In this clip, we talk about Carolyn’s passion for Harlem, what has encouraged its resurgence, and she gives us a quick history lesson into this fascinating part of NYC.

Deborah Kobylt LIVE: Mark Thompson

You’re on the air🎙️

Please welcome to our show Mark Thompson, world-renowned radio personality heard every morning for 25 years on the nationally syndicated Mark and Brian Show originating from KLOS Radio, and Mark joins us to talk about his book, “DON’T BUMP THE RECORD, KID,” and it’s a true inside look into what goes on in the radio biz, both on and off the air!

I’m no stranger to Los Angeles radio, being married to half of the longest-running radio team in the history of radio, John Kobylt of “The John and Ken Show,” and John started reading this book even before I did.

This is more than a personal memoir, Mark’s book offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at morning drive, the celebrities, studio politics, passionate fans, and the incredible live music & comedy bits that pumped life into two and half decades of entertainment. Mark & Brian were indicted into the Radio Hall of Fame as well. As an aside, John and Ken have been twice nominated, can the third time be the charm?

We look forward to our interview with Mark, and hope you’ll join us and listen.

Deborah Kobylt LIVE: JD Slajchert, author, “Darling, You’re Not Alone.”

This next story is what life, and the holidays, are all about. Meet JD Slajchert, former college athlete and author, “Darling, You’re Not Alone.” The book is based on JD’s life story about a young boy who came to see all of JD’s college basketball games, until one day, the boy got very sick.

What happens after the boy’s illness forever changed JD’s purpose in life, and he writes about it. In fact, the NY Times calls his book, “A Must Read That Will Change Your Life.” We talk with JD about this, and also how one incident in a person’s life can truly change one’s entire direction in life.

Deborah Kobylt LIVE: Jake and Angela McFarland

Meet Jake and Angela McFarland, proprietors of Coffee Closet With Barista Jake, and this is NOT your ordinary coffee shop. Jake, who is autistic, opened a coffee cart in his dad’s record store, and the community in Norristown, PA, went bonkers for it.

Fast forward, he and his mom now have their own shop, and employ people with special needs, giving them life-long job and social skills that will serve them long after they leave the coffee shop.

These are two extraordinary people who have given back so much to the community and beyond, and it’s a terrific way to get into the giving spirit for the holidays. Please join me, and invite your friends to, on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. Thanks for tuning in!

Deborah Kobylt LIVE: Dannie De Novo, lawyer, author, and “happiness” coach

Meet Dannie De Novo, lawyer, author, and “happiness” coach, but I assure you, her road to happiness wasn’t paved with gold.

Dannie wrote “Get In A Good Mood & Stay There,” and “It’s All Gravy, Recipes for Happiness,” in addition to creating a successful coaching business on how to find your happy, which led to appearances on major TV Networks and shows. But life didn’t start out this way. Growing up in an Italian family in rural Pennsylvania, Dannie related more to her horses than people. Feeling out of sorts, she tried everything from pills to shock therapy to find her happy, but nothing worked, until she took matters into her own hands to find out what was truly the root cause of her terminal unhappiness. And she found it, and now helps others do the same.

Please join #DeborahKobyltLIVE and #LittleItalyPodcast on all audio and video platforms, and invite your friends to hear Dannie’s story as well. It’s a real shocker. Thanks for tuning in, as always. #DeborahZaraKobylt

Deborah Kobylt LIVE: Angela Yeoh

#MeToo became a well-known phrase after women came forward to report sexual harassment and mid treatment they endured in the movie industry, particularly, under the hand of one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein.

Please join me as I interview actress Angela Yeoh, who gives a moving performance as Rowena Chiu, Harvey Weinstein’s former assistant, in the film, “She Said,” which chronicles the women who brought the film mogul down — and the journalists who told their story, from the abuses they endured, to NDA’s they were forced to sign, and hush money payments to keep them silent.

Deborah Kobylt LIVE: Chritopher Radko

This is one of those feel-good holiday stories, and I’m pleased to welcome to our show, Christopher Radko, founder of HeARTfully Yours, a unique Christmas ornament company unlike any other. And it all started when his grandmother’s Christmas tree fell over, breaking her glass ornaments. Years later, Christopher decided to do something about it.

Christopher designs stunning holiday ornaments hand-crafted by glass, made by artisans in Poland and Ukraine. His designs have caught the eye of some of many notable celebs from Elton to Travolta, and dozens more. This year, some of the ornaments are being made in what’s left of the Ukrainian factories in that country, employing people and bringing hope there. It’s a beautiful story, and one that started when Christopher was a young boy, and he tells us about that, too.

Join us on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and please invite your friends, too. I just love this story, and I’m excited to interview Christopher about his delightful company that brings hope and holiday cheer to so many.

Deborah Kobylt LIVE: Richard Lee Procter

Please join me in welcoming Richard Lee Procter, author, “SUGARBALL, A Novel of Negro Baseball League.” The book is based on a true story, and highlights the indignities many players endured in the Negro baseball league, and the history behind it.

This is fascinating account dating back to 1937, when the dictator of the Dominican Republic enlisted the greatest baseball players from the American Negro League, Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, and Cool Papa Bell, to represent his country in a national baseball tournament. The players quickly found themselves celebrated in a country with no race prejudice. What they couldn’t know is that they were pawns in a deadly, winner-take-all political game. The tale is told by the 12 year old bat boy who watched it all, based on a true story.

Thanks for joining us for this conversation with Richard, who said he’s been fascinated with this story since he was a young boy, and wanted to make sure to tell the story of these men, and all of the players who had to endure prejudice and mistreatment, and how they overcame it. Full interview LIVE on #DeborahKobyltLIVE on all video and audio platforms. Thanks for tuning in, and please invite your friends, too.
